Onpage SEO Explained
For many people SEO can be a confusing thing. They struggle to get a grasp of all the aspects of it so they stick to the basics that they do know – basics such as 'get backlinks'. And whilst that is all well and good, backlinks are indeed vital, onpage SEO is just as important.
But because people don't grasp it as easily there seems to be a lack of knowledge being shared about onpage SEO. Which is why we wanted to put together this easy to follow explanation of on page SEO
Onpage SEO Explained
There are a number of important factors about onpage SEO that you need to grasp. The good news is that they are quick and easy. Keep referring back to this checklist when you are doing your onpage SEO.
- Are you targeting a keyword? Key-wording is vital to SEO. A good keyword has a lot of searches and low/weak competition.
- What keyword saturation have you got? Most recommend between 2 – 3%. Also make sure to include related keywords to generate more traffic and make sure that search engines knows what the article/site is about.
- Have you used metatags? Metatags with your keyword and other related words can really boost your rankings even if they are no longer as powerful as they once were.
- Do you have an image? If so (and we suggest you do) make sure that the title, description and alt-tag all contain your keyword (amazing how few people do this).
- Linking out. Some say don't do it, we say you should – but only one or two to authority sites (such as wikipedia).
- Internal linking – do it to your own sites as often as possible.
- Headers. Do you have the ehaders in the right HTML coding? Do they have the keywords in them?
- Bold, underline and italicise your keywords. This lets Google and other search engines know that they are important to your site or article.
